Local measures

Local measures

When pseudomembranous candidosis and erythematous candidosis infections are associated with the use of inhaled corticosteroids for lung disease, use local measures in the first instance to try to avoid the problem.

  • Advise patients who use a corticosteroid inhaler that immediately after using the inhaler they should rinse their mouth and gargle with water and then spit the water out.
  • Advise patients who use a corticosteroid inhaler that use of a spacer device can reduce the risk of oral candidiasis.
