The Drug Prescribing for Dentistry website

The Drug Prescribing for Dentistry website was launched in January 2023 and replaces the Dental Prescribing app. The website is based on SDCEP’s Drug Prescribing for Dentistry guidance and has been updated to be consistent with the third edition of the guidance, which was published in 2016.

SDCEP’s prescribing guidance is based on dentally-relevant prescribing information from the BNF and BNFC and the app is currently consistent with BNF 85 (March 2023) and BNFC 2022-2023.

SDCEP will review each new print edition of the BNF and BNFC and will endeavour to update the website in as timely a manner as possible. However, be aware that due to the time required to prepare updates, the website may not always reflect the information available in the latest version of the BNF.

For those drugs where a range in the dose or frequency of administration is provided by the BNF, a dose and frequency of administration that is most relevant to primary care dental practice is recommended based on the opinion of experienced practitioners.

Each drug entry includes a link to the relevant page of the BNF for interaction information at www.medicinescomplete.com.  Access to this content is provided for UK-based individuals undertaking work (or training) for the NHS. To register for a MedicinesComplete account and access the BNF and/or the BNFC content, complete the user registration form.

As the content of Drug Prescribing for Dentistry website is based on the BNF and BNFC, access is restricted to users in the UK only.
